Pop Triggers are not really grenades; they're rolling geometry tests. Toss one across open ground and it may veer off before the blast reaches an ARC, but give it a clean floor and a boxed-in target and the same item becomes surprisingly dependable. That difference matters for Phantom Targets progress, score chasing, and your wider ARC Raiders Items grind, especially since Pop Triggers are uncommon drops from defeated Pops. The smart play isn't carrying a ridiculous stack and hoping RNG behaves. It's choosing a target, cleaning up the room, and making the device travel through as little uncertainty as possible.

Why the Floor Is Your Real Weapon

A Pop Trigger rolls forward, reacts to surfaces and objects, then detonates after a short delay. That makes slopes, stairs, rubble and clutter far more dangerous than they look. You can aim directly at a Bombardier and still miss because the floor sends the device wide or the ARC walks away during the fuse. Flat interiors are the best setup because they reduce both problems at once. Stand square to the route, keep the target at roughly the same elevation, and use one throw as a test shot before spending the rest of your stack. From what I've seen, that first test tells you more than another ten metres of distance ever will.

Pick the Target That Fits the Run

Not every ARC deserves your inventory. Large ground units give the Pop Trigger a forgiving hit area, while small flying targets can leave the blast zone before detonation. Bombardiers and Bastions work well on level ground near cover; their size and readable movement make them good choices for steady progress. Shredders become much better inside a room, where doors and walls limit their movement. A Leaper is awkward outside but manageable in a tower, stairwell or narrow interior. The Matriarch has the highest score potential because its exposed core creates a large, enclosed damage area, yet that route demands more supplies and exposes you to a much nastier raid.

Okay, Build the Run Around One Plan

The most common mistake is bringing a pile of Pop Triggers without deciding what the run is supposed to accomplish. Pick the target before deployment, then match the loadout and route to it. Water Treatment and its connected corridors on Dam Battlegrounds are useful collection areas because Pops can appear along the indoor route. For the 50 damage tied to Phantom Targets, you don't need the huge supply used by high-score attempts. Bigger pushes may call for 20 or more devices, but that is a grind, not a requirement for ordinary progress.

The Small Details That Save a Stack

Use this quick check before releasing more than one device.

Clear nearby Spotters and other threats before setting up.
Check the entire rolling line for debris, corners and floor changes.
Wait for the ARC to pause, turn, or enter the selected space.
Throw one Pop Trigger first and watch its route.
Release the next few from the same angle only if the test works.
Leave once the project or score target is secured.

What High Scores Hide

Matriarch clips make the method look easy, but they usually skip the collection loop, the failed entries and the extraction pressure afterward. You still need to reach the correct core position, survive the ARC attack, protect the supply from other Raiders and escape with the result. Repeated explosions can also advertise your location, so a greedy extra throw may turn a successful objective into a lost raid. At least in my experience, a clean Bombardier setup is a better use of time for normal progression, while the Matriarch belongs to players who actively want the leaderboard challenge.

The Better Mental Model

Think of every Pop Trigger attempt as an environment problem before it becomes an aiming problem. Restrict the ARC, shorten the route, test the surface and keep cover between you and the target. That logic works across ARC Raiders even when spawn patterns and player traffic change. Once Phantom Targets progress is complete, spend the next collection run deciding which ARC Raiders Materials are worth carrying out, then extract instead of chasing a few extra points. Pop Triggers reward patience, not panic, and that makes controlled positioning the real meta.
